At Sandcastle Park, we offer full day Summer Camps for children 2 ½ to 5 year old which integrates a special focus with our Jr. Kindergarten program where children not only enjoy reading, writing, mathematics, social studies and science, but also language arts, music and movement, fine arts, physical education and social and interactive play. By continuing to offer extended hours and a catered hot lunch program combined with our summer co-curricular activities, we hope to accommodate hectic working schedules and give parents the opportunity to reclaim precious family time while kids explore, express, create…be great!
Jr. Foodies: July 2nd – 13th
New York Times columnist Harriet Van Horne once said, “Cooking is like love. It should be entered into with abandon or not at all.” Watch as our Jr. Foodies prove this statement to be true while confidence, skills and pride in each child's ability is enhanced while they prepare meals, snacks and desserts. Kids learn to work as a team, basic cooking techniques, a little history, kitchen safety, how to follow recipe directions, and how to help Mom and Dad in the kitchen, and maybe even teach them a thing or two!
Cock-A-Doodle Moo: July 16th – 27th
“Old McDonald had a farm e-i-e-i-o!” Take a tractor ride to an imaginary farm in this camp where children will explore domestic farm life and farm animals through stories, pretend play, music and art. Don’t be surprised when your child comes home saying they milked a cow! All the concepts from this camp become concrete when we visit Maple Wood Farms in North Vancouver at the end of this camp.
Pint Sized Picassos: July 30th – August 10th
Children will be introduced to a variety of media and will learn basic art skills as we discover, “What is art”? Art history and art timeline, genre and techniques will be explored in an age appropriate way while stories and art projects will be guides in their exploration. Projects will include painting, drawing, sculpture and much more! This session ends with focus on Huang Yong Ping, one of China’s most influential contemporary artists, and a visit to his retrospective exhibit, House of Oracles, at the Vancouver Art Gallery.
A Star is Born: August 13th – 24th
Blast off for adventure in this cosmic summer camp that will take your child where no pre-schooler has gone before! Children will learn about our solar system while we build an awareness and appreciation of astronomy developed through hands-on investigations, exploration and create art projects that are literally out of this world! Students observe, predict, sequence, analyze, and apply knowledge they have learned through all aspects of our program including language arts, mathematics, music and arts. At the end of this session, we invite families to join us in an evening of star gazing where we give our Campers the opportunity to shine and dazzle brighter than the stars above. |
